Our vision is to succeed in reversing the chronic underperformance of our township schools.

VSP's Mission

The mission of the BelaBela Education Advocacy Group (BBEAG) is to ensure that all township students acquire the knowledge, skills and values necessary to live rich and fulfilling lives as responsible, productive and enlightened members of a democratic society. 

Introduction

The Vacation School Programme (VSP) is dedicated to helping students from Bela-Bela township that are caught in the “eye of the storm”, after schools received very low Grade 12 pass rates in recent years.

An intensive tutoring programme will be started during schools holidays which will feature among others:

  • tutoring of key subjects
  • motivational speakers
  • sessions aimed at assessing study skills &
  • interactive rhythm workshops

A pool of top-notch tutors will be recruited on a voluntary basis. Combined lecturing, tutoring and test preparation for all townships school will be run in key subjects including Maths, Life Sciences, Accounting, Economics, English & physical sciences(physics and chemistry). 

Key Actions

  •  Develop clear and rigorous standards in science, social studies, maths and english.
  • Develop a wide range of curriculum resources to help students transform the learning standards into daily readings.
  • Provide a minimum amount of daily studies in the core subjects to all learners- ensure that all students have equal access to challenging lessons based on the learning standards.
  • A total of 120 minutes of high quality reading and writing instruction everyday.
  • Seventy minutes of Mathematics, Accounting, Economics and Physical Sciences. This will be done through direct instruction of subject’s skills and concepts through practise and reading.
